THE COMPANY

Your Bread Box is an Ottawa-based sourdough bread company committed to creating delicious, wholesome baked goods using locally sourced ingredients. Known for our naturally leavened bread, we’re now expanding our pastry offerings—specifically croissants and danishes—crafted with the same patience, skill, and love.

We supply to local cafes, restaurants, and retailers, and sell directly at farmers’ markets and through custom orders. Everything we bake is handmade with care, creativity, and a commitment to flavour.

THE ROLE

We’re hiring a Part-Time Pastry Chef with professional experience working with laminated doughs to take the lead on producing croissants and danishes at our commercial kitchen in Carp. This role is ideal for someone who understands the technical and creative aspects of pastry and is ready to help shape (literally and figuratively) our growing pastry line.

You’ll be in charge of the full process—from laminating and shaping to proofing, baking, and finishing—and you’ll also have a voice in developing new seasonal offerings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce a variety of croissants (classic butter, almond, chocolate, ham & cheese, etc.)

  • Create sweet and savory danishes using seasonal fillings (fruit, custard, cream cheese, etc.)

  • Perform consistent and precise lamination of doughs

  • Proof, bake, and finish pastries to a high standard

  • Help develop and test new croissant and danish flavours

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work area

  • Assist in tracking inventory and pastry supplies

  • Occasionally assist with general bakery tasks during prep days

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Has 2+ years of experience in a professional pastry kitchen

  • Specializes in laminated doughs and understands the nuances of croissant production

  • Comfortable with high-volume pastry production in a fast-paced environment

  • Familiar with commercial baking equipment (sheeters, mixers, proofers, ovens)

  • Passionate about seasonal ingredients, pastry innovation, and working with a team

  • Independent, reliable, and excited about growing with a small business

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be available at least 3 days per week, including weekends

  • 2+ years of pastry experience required, preferably with laminated doughs

  • Formal culinary or pastry training is an asset but not required

  • Familiarity with sourdough fermentation is a bonus
